The Crime Museum Uncovered

Elaine attended #CrimeMuseum @MuseumofLondon last night wearing @OliverBonas (bag, top & jewellery).

More info

Prime Suspect author Lynda La Plante indulged her fascination with the criminal underworld at the opening of The Crime Museum Uncovered exhibition.

The Liverpool-born writer was one of the first visitors to the Museum of London show, which places items from the Metropolitan Police’s Crime Museum on public display for the first time.

Since it was set up in the mid-1870s, only police professionals and invited guests have been able to view the Crime Museum’s collection.

Murderous objects on display in the new exhibition include:

  • A briefcase with syringe and poison owned by the Kray Twins
  • Masks used by the Stratton Brothers in 1905
  • Objects relating to the murder of Mrs Oliver Durand-Deacon by John Haigh, the ‘Acid Bath Murderer’ in 1949

The Crime Museum Uncovered is open at the Museum of London from today until April 10, 2016.

Farewell Brian Friel

We are saddened to announce the passing of Irish dramatist, short story writer and founder of the Field Day Theatre Company #BrianFriel. Elaine was in his last production of #FathersAndSons @DonmarWarehouse which we were lucky and privileged enough to see last summer.

Our thoughts are with his family and of course Elaine.

Property of the State

Elaine has just wrapped filming her new film #PropertyOfTheState.

According to Elaine’s Twitter, she plays #Maureen, but according to IMDb – Property of the State, she plays Margaret, so I’m unsure exactly which is correct.

The film also stars Aisling Loftus (Mr Selfridge) and Patrick Gibson (The Tudors), written and directed by Kit Ryan.

Property of the State is due for release 2016.

One month ’til The Program

Only a month to go for the release of #TheProgram in cinemas. Elaine plays #BetsyAndreu @BigBoyler.

In cinemas 16 October 2015 (UK).

No Offence

Joanna Scanlan (Getting On), Alexandra Roach (The Thirteenth Tale) and Elaine Cassidy (The Paradise) have been cast in Channel 4′s police procedural series No Offence.

No Offence

Keeping these streets clean is a Herculean task, enough to demoralize even the keenest rookie – but there’s a reason why this hotchpotch of committed cops are on this force, on this side of town. Drug labs, arsonists, neo-Nazis and notorious murderers are all in a day’s work for this close-knit team, led by the dizzyingly capable but unquestionably unhinged DI Vivienne Deering (Scanlan). But when a particularly twisted serial killer emerges it leaves even the most hardened of these seasoned coppers reeling.

Flanked by her right-hand women – the compassionate but impulsive DC Dinah Kowalska (Cassidy) and the recently (surprisingly) promoted DS Joy Freers (Roach) – Deering and her team must crack this case by whatever unconventional means possible. Because amidst all the assorted low life; the pimps, the petty thieves, and downright nasty bastards they’ve dealt with, this will be their most disturbing case yet, one that will touch their lives in ways they could never expect.

Paul Abbott says:

No Offence is a precinct cop drama. It’s also one of the funniest things I’ve ever been allowed to put together. It doesn’t look like anything else. No Offence’s cake mix is as bipolar as they get – it lurches from jet black laugh-out-loud, into fragile material on the turn of a sixpence. Writing three strong female leads is one thing. Writing women that men would choose as leaders has been particularly satisfying.

The eight episodes of No Offence will kick off with a 75 minute opening episode followed by 7 x 60 minute episodes.

No Offence will air on Channel 4 in 2015.

No Offence was commissioned by Piers Wenger, Head of Drama for Channel 4. Written and created by Paul Abbott, it is produced by his company AbbottVision. Executive Producers are Paul Abbott and Martin Carr; Series Producer is Anna Ferguson, Producer is Simon Meyers, Director first block David Kerr (Fresh Meat, Inside No.9), Director second block Catherine Morshead (Ashes To Ashes). Commissioning Editors for Channel 4 are Beth Willis and Roberto Troni.

No Offence is currently filming on location in Manchester.

A decade of The EC Site

Today we celebrate 10 years of dedication to the lovely and amazingly talented Elaine Cassidy.

Lou, my partner in EC crime gave me this card this morning to say congrats …

A decade of The EC Site

To celebrate the day, we’re heading to the Cambridge Folk Festival to see one of our favourite bands Katzenjammer. And to help you celebrate the day, I’m going outside the bounds of Elaine related stuff (for the most part) and sharing with you Sol’s rendition of Rocky Road to Dublin in honour of Elaine … enjoy.

Dusty Show

Elaine and Stephen recently attended the new musical Dusty, a unique new multi-media show celebrating the music of 60’s pop icon Dusty Springfield. Dusty is now showing at The Charing Cross Theatre in London.

Elaine was wearing a dress by designer Oliver Bonas.

No Offence to return

Filming of creator Paul Abbott‘s darkly comic police drama, No Offence, starring Elaine Cassidy, Joanna Scanlan, Will Mellor and Alexandra Roach set to begin in early 2016.

The Shameless creator’s latest drama launched with 2.5 million viewers last month.

Abbott has described it as a “comedy for a crime-addicted audience who love The Bill. It’s The Bill, tilted“.

I don’t think you need damage to be a good writer but you have more experience of extremities.
Paul Abbott

Although it has not held onto its overnight audience – its penultimate episode was watched by 1.2 million viewers last week and was warmly received by critics. The first series ends tonight @ 9pm.

Channel 4 said the consolidated series average, including people who recorded it and watched it in the subsequent seven days, was 2.5 million, 47% up on its slot average.

Filming on the new eight-part series will begin in Manchester in early 2016.

Programme makers said it would “see the team investigating a whole new case, involving warring crime families and will see DI Deering [Scanlan] come up against her toughest adversary yet – a woman who is pretty much her mirror image, in her brains, ingenuity and determination, except she’s on the other side of the law“.

Channel 4’s head of drama, Piers Wenger, said: “No Offence is not just unlike any other cop show on TV, it’s unlike any other show on TV – and we are delighted to announce its return next year“.

Paul and the cast have set the bar high in terms of thrills, spills and belly laughs this year and we can’t wait to see where they go in series two.
Piers Wenger, Head of drama, Channel 4

Don’t miss the series finale of No Offence tonight @ 9pm on Channel 4
